Awe—Peace and Relaxation!

This past week has encompassed a variety of emotions.

From “I can NOT believe this has happened”, to” Whoop! Whoop! My cancer scans were stable!”, to “What are we supposed to do now?” to Awe—Peace and Relaxation!”

Yes!  We have had all of these emotions plus more this past week.

One thing is for sure, this RV/Photography trip came at just the exact right time. We’ve been planning it as a reward for Hannah who has been working on something personal for the last 3 months. She earned it and thankfully even though we had to cancel it at the beginning of the week due to some unexpected factors, Ben was able to reschedule the entire trip in a matter of 2 ½ hours. It all just fell back into place.

The Lord knew that a mixture of a 28ft. RV + Road Trip + Stopping and taking Pictures + Camp Fires + Roasting Marshmallows = Healing, Bonding, Memories and Family Fun!

Our Adventure began on Saturday morning at 5 am. We had goals y’all! Sunrise, an open field, and a barn. That’s what we were looking to photograph. Somewhere in between Jesup and Alma we found the perfect place to begin our day.

Right before Sunrise
Ben caught us busy taking pics!
Ben even took this panoramic.

After our first stop, we loaded back up and were on the way to Lumpkin, Georgia to photograph Providence Canyon. We were making great tracks, until we realized that we needed to find a Walmart—something about planning a trip in 2 ½ hours kept us from shopping the day before. When we made a turn around to go back to Walmart, we saw this field that had 2 silos, and a tree full of buzzards. We were intrigued! Hannah and I grabbed our cameras and started shooting.

I need to stop and interject an important story in this adventure. I have been shooting as an amateur photographer for 8+ years. It’s a hobby of mine that I love. I have had the same Nikon camera for this whole time. On Friday I was gathering my camera and didn’t realize my bag was unlatched. I watched in horror as my camera fell out of the bag onto the floor and heard this cracking sound as it hit. My favorite lens was broken. I could NOT believe it. My heart sunk because that is the lens I prefer to shoot with and after some research and pricing I realized it would not be replaced before we left. After a few hours of sadness and pouting—it’s taken me almost 50 years to master a good pout, I got a text from my sweet daughter-in-law, Tricia—who is a professional photographer. She heard about my accident and brought me a similar lens to shoot with. Only another photographer could empathize with the loss of a lens. This was just another provision the Lord made for our trip. Once we were on the trip Hannah and I also discovered that we preferred to keep one camera ready with a normal lens and the other camera with a telephoto lens. Then we would just swap cameras back and forth.

We finally made it to Providence Canyon and if you are still hanging in there–you are a trooper. Trust me though, you are only seeing a few of the pics because together Hannah and I took over 3500+ pictures. We have been doing some serious editing and playing and looking.

Up next–Providence Canyon.

We parked at a church that had an old cemetery. We enjoyed reading the tombstones.

On Sunday morning we slept in a little and then made our way to Milledgeville, GA. We wanted to look at the antebellum homes, Georgia College and State University where I graduated, and architecture. Then we stayed at Scenic View RV Park which we can highly recommend. It was beautiful. We took it easy, had a camp fire and roasted marshmallows. Check it out!

Bless you if you made it this far–but I thank you for sticking with me.

We thoroughly had a blast on this trip. One day soon, I’ll blog about our RV experience, but today was about showing a glimpse of what we saw on our journey.

Thank you so much for hanging in there with me. I’m going to send out a challenge. Please take a picture or two of something that excites you, or shows beauty, or makes you have a strong feeling. Post one or two in the comments or on my Facebook page at God is up to Something. I’d love to see them.
