Moments to Meditate

With the exception of the last chapter, I end every chapter in Trusting God with a moment to meditate. If you have read the book then you know I include a “challenge” for you to complete. I included these mainly as a way to get you to do something you might not normally do and to inspire you to spend a variety of ways thinking about our God who is entwined in every aspect of our lives.

Today I am giving you a ONE MONTH NOTICE!

Yes, a whole month! We will share on March 24th!

Anyone can join in with the challenge whether you have read the book or not. That’s another fun part is that you don’t have to know the back story to participate.

So here is the challenge from Chapter 1:

One of the ways I remind our family and myself to trust in God is to decorate with verses from the Bible around our house.  I found a trust sign at our local Goodwill for $3.99 and as soon as I saw it, I knew I was going to use it somewhere in our home.  I didn’t like all of the colors on the sign, but I knew I could repaint those with colors of my choice.   I found left-over boards from our pallet Christmas trees project and decided they would be perfect to use for the scripture. I discovered some leftover white and gray paint for the base color on the boards. Then, I used a Cameo Silhouette to cut out the letters of the scripture from medium-weight black cardstock.  Next, I used Mod Podge™ matte finish and a paintbrush to glue the letters onto the boards.  I know some of you are asking yourselves—why didn’t you just use vinyl letters?  My answer is because on that day, I had black cardstock, and I didn’t feel like sanding those pallet boards smooth.  I’m a roll-with-it kind of girl, so this worked, and I finished my project.

My challenge to you is to find some verses that inspire you to trust in God or remind you of a promise from God to use as décor in your home.  You do not need a special machine to create a lovely display of your verse—don’t let that stop you.  There are so many ways to make something beautiful—it can be as simple as printing out your favorite verse on a pretty piece of cardstock, finding a frame, and Voila! Your verse is ready to be displayed. I am reminded daily that I can find perfect peace when I am trusting in Jesus—it’s the first thing I see when I walk in my bathroom every morning.  What words will you choose to speak into your life and your family’s lives?

Whether you consider yourself to be crafty or not, we all need God’s Word in our life. In the Old Testament times, God’s word was passed down from generation to generation. They were commanded to make it a priority in their lives. Here are a few examples:

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.  And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (ESV)

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8 (ESV)

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11 (ESV)

In the New Testament we discover the Word in a new light.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 (ESV)

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 (ESV)

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Romans 15:4 (ESV)

We are meant to pursue the knowledge that comes from the Word and then meditate on it by seeking it’s meaning and application to our lives. Ultimately, we should be discovering the character of God through His Word and growing in our relationship with Him.

This happens through reading and meditation of the Word.

Hence, the reason for the challenge.

AND BONUS IDEA–get your family involved and have them join you in creating their own scripture display in their space.

I am so looking forward to seeing the results of this project! We will be doing this for the next 10 months. The last week of the month will be devoted to Moments to Meditate.

  1. I can’t wait!! I think having God in our lives helps us through our struggles in life, so I am so excited to join my mom (Julie) in this project.
