Did you know that today marks the 265th day of the year 2019?
That’s right–only 100 days left in this year.
Then the New Year will roll in and voila–it will be 2020!
So were you successful this year? Did you live up to your New Year’s Resolution?
Why bring this up? What’s so important about the last 100 days of the year?
You still have time to be intentional and accomplish a goal. That’s right you have 100 days, 2,400 hours or 144,000 minutes–however you like to think about time.
I have to admit that I don’t make New Years Resolutions anymore–I quit that a long time ago. I do however make lists of goals or things I’d like to accomplish. Here’s a few of my goals for 2019 …
- Continue writing daily. I’ll give myself a C+ for this effort. I’ve decided that “daily” must mean Monday – Friday because I rarely accomplish writing on the weekends. Ha!
- Make 7 quilts this year. I’m getting a B for my efforts so far because I just finished quilt #5.
- Prayer time with my hubby. This has been a work in progress. We think we finally have a good system worked out for us. We have a section of our list that is permanent, and we have a part that is fluid so we can add to or take away as prayers get answered, or the need changes. I’ll give us an A for our perseverance and commitment to praying most nights together.
- Eating as healthy as possible. One of my smaller goals within this category was to maintain my weight. I have been able to keep my weight within a 5 lb. range for almost 7 months now. Whoop whoop! That has been mostly due to eating as healthy as possible which for us means home cooked meals, trying to eat organic or locally grown products, using raw honey instead of sugar, and trying a variety of fruits and veggies. I’m getting an A+ for all the home cooked meals this year.
- Walking more and lifting weights. Umm, nope. Haven’t done either of these very well. I’m going to get an F in this department.
- Redo Hannah’s closet. I mean like build shelves and reorganize the entire closet. We have been in our house almost a year and 4 months–the girl needs her closet revamped so she can reach her stuff. It is on our “to do” list for October. No grade on that one yet!
- Rent an RV and take a road trip. We did that in March, and loved the experience so much that we are renting an RV again in November to go camping with our kids and their families. A++ for great way to make memories and have a great time together.
- Read the entire Bible. My app says I’m on track for the year, but I can tell you that after I accomplish this goal, I plan to redo it and take it way slower. Like it may take me 5 years to do it again instead of 1 year.
You get the idea–these are kinda resolutions, but not really. They are things that can make a difference in our physical bodies, spiritual well-being, and sometimes just make life more enjoyable.
As I was thinking about how I’d like to finish out the year of 2019, I was reminded of the words from Ephesians 1:17-19 from my reading today. Paul was telling the Christians in Ephesus, or modern Turkey, that He had been praying for them. His prayer included, “a spirit of wisdom and of the revelation of the knowledge of Him”. He also prayed that “the eyes of their heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.”
I love that Paul was praying for his brothers and sisters in Christ to have spiritual wisdom and a deep understanding of who Jesus was and is. He also wanted them to truly grasp the greatness of the hope and the inheritance that is ours in Christ. Then he prayed that we would understand about the power that is ours because of Christ. Note: He didn’t pray that we would be given power, but that we would recognize that we already have the same power that raised Jesus from the dead available for us to use. WOW!
So what do I want to do with my remaining 100 days of 2019? Honestly, I need to rethink some of my goals for rest of the year. Especially because we are fast approaching the busiest time of the year. I’m going to challenge myself and you to sit down and make some intentional plans that will help you to grow in your knowledge of God and that will have you to act on that knowledge by doing something for God’s glory and in His power.
Live out the last 100 days of 2019 in a way that will please your Heavenly Father.
In Him,
P.S. : For those of you wondering…. my colonoscopy came back completely normal. No polyps, no microscopic colitis, everything was 100% normal. Thanks for praying for me! God is good!
