I want you to know that these verses are some of my go to verses in life’s difficult moments. I love how our guest blogger, Teresa Eason, shares from the hard places to find that her trust in God is firm and grounded in these truths. Teresa is a precious friend in my life who has walked a difficult journey with Jesus by her side. Let’s discover the beauty from ashes that flows from her story . . .
These verses mean so much to me because they remind me to trust God even when it doesn’t make sense to trust Him. We all have had circumstance in our life where we question how God is going to use this situation to shape us; however, we don’t think like God and our ways are not like God’s. When we are walking through the fire, whether it be a sickness, family tragedy, or even a job that seems to be going nowhere; although, we might not see it clearly at the time—we can trust that God is going to use our circumstance for our good and His glory.
I have had to lean on Isaiah 55:8-9 several times in the past 5 years. When my husband suddenly lost his job, when my granddaughter was in a tragic accident that took the lives of her siblings and left her bed ridden for months, and more recently when my sister was suddenly killed and she left behind a 11-year-old daughter. These are all situations in my life when God’s ways and God’s thoughts didn’t make sense to me. And, as hard as it was, I had to walk by faith and trust that God’s ways were working through everything for me and for His purpose.
Have you ever you wondered why you are in a certain job? It could very well be a situation where God is using a job you are in now to shape you for future service in His work. Way before I had even read Isaiah 55:8-9, God put me in a job that would start my career in the medical field. Although, it seemed to be nothing special, the on the job training I received would later allow me to work with a team in North Africa as a medical assistant taking blood pressures and checking blood sugars for a group of women. The training I had received in my 20’s was allowing me to be a part of God’s work 30 years later. It was then that I read Isaiah 55:8-9 and realized just how true those verses were in my life and how loving and caring God is that we are always in His thoughts.
That same career path God started me on in my early 20’s has now allowed me to work from home. This was so important after my granddaughter’s accident when she was bedridden and needed 24-hour care. Yes, God allowed a tragedy to take place in her life and mine, but He also provided a way for us to have the resources at hand to deal with the tragedy. I don’t know the reasons behind everything that happened to my husband, my granddaughter, or my sister but I do know that knowing Isaiah 55:8-9 has given me great comfort during each of these tragedies. God’s thoughts and God’s ways are always going to be higher that my thoughts and ways.
Sometimes God’s ways don’t always make sense to us and we can never fathom just how much higher His thoughts are than our thoughts, but in all circumstances, good or bad, we must trust Him. It is not walking by faith if we know all the answers. A devotion I recently read by Charles Stanley in his book, Every Day in His Presence said, “as long as you’re looking for everything to make sense, you are not fully depending on an omnipotent God”. We are not supposed to understand everything that happens in our life but to have faith and trust that God is molding us for His purpose and His glory. We must learn to walk by faith.
So, my word to others about this verse is to not discount the job or circumstance God has allowed you to be in as He may be molding you for an important assignment that only you can fulfill. When you have a tragedy in your life, look back to see how God has prepared you and given you the resources to handle the situation. We are ALWAYS in God’s thoughts and His ways are higher than we can ever imagine.
