Mayo Visit Today 7/08/19

Our Mayo Selfie

We are almost at the 1 year mark when the doctors found “rare cancers cells” and declared that I was no longer in “remission”. I had my colostomy reversal on July 19, 2018, and it was during that procedure that doctors found those “rare cancer cells”.

It was also a time when we decided to forego any more chemo and chose quality of life over quantity.

Since then I have made big “dietary” changes. I haven’t been able to eat the completely “raw” veggies and fruits I planned because my tummy can’t handle veggies that are raw. (Boy what I would do for a good salad!) Instead, I am thankful I can eat cooked green beans, cauliflower, zucchini, yellow squash and mushrooms. I can also eat strawberries, grapes, blueberries, bananas, apples, and blackberries. I eat mostly organic, if possible, if not, I try not to sweat it. I’ve given up all pork, shrimp, farm raised fish, most oils, and dairy. My body can’t handle these foods. We’ve tried to make it a priority to use less cleaning supplies and more natural cleaners within our house. I also am starting to slowly change my lotions to more natural and organic choices.

Small changes, but since we know my cancer was NOT genetic but environmental, we want to do our part to keep it at bay.

Do you want to know the truth? Even doing all these things won’t lengthen my days. Nope, those were given to me before I was born.

Some of you may be asking yourself why bother then? Well because I want this body to be the best it can be for what ever amount of time I have left on this earth. And that leads up to today’s visit to Mayo.

Our doctor came in smiling and said these words, “There is no evidence of cancer, and the nodules have not grown any.”

So today we celebrate this victory! We were doing the “Thank you Jesus dance” on the way to the elevator and as soon as we got to our van we stopped and told God how thankful we are for this fantastic news!

Our doctors are amazed that the cancer is staying in check, but we know something our doctors might not—that God will keep that cancer away if that is what He chooses, or He will allow it to grow if that is what He chooses.

But today, we celebrate the “No evidence of cancer!”

  7. Julie, I am so excited to be following your blog now and to see what amazing things God is doing in your life! The invitation came at the best time too as we just found out that Jason’s dad has stage 4 double hit lymphoma. You are such an inspiration, not just in the healing, but also in the acceptance of whatever God has in store for your life. We often forget that our lives are not are own don’t we? Thank you for this sweet reminder!
